about

A friend of mine, whom I met because of our mutual interest in camping, is now overseas for 6 months in active duty serving our country... being Army Strong! He's along side many just like him. I've told him he's my hero and I mean that. The sacrifices he and others like him make is more than most of us could bear. His experiences, along with thoughts of other heroes, helped me pen this song.

Heroes To Us All
Owen Poteat

There's a statue near the airport
Of a man from long ago
I wonder what it was he did
I wonder if he knows.

It says he was a soldier
My friend's a soldier too
Different wars and different uniforms
Different lies and different truths

I sit here in my comfort
Watch it all on my news
I've become impervious
To the things real heroes do..

Chorus:
Heroes come and go
Some are born and some are called...
Some are heroes to a few...
Some are heroes to us all...

He's got a duffel on his shoulder
And a ticket in his hand
Heading off to some desert
In some foreign land

He won't be home for Christmas
Even though it's early fall
God's speed to you son
God's safety to you all.

Chorus: (Twice, Bigger)

Bridge:
We all take for granted
What some do for us all
The courage it must take
To stand so brave and tall
Not every hero gets a statue
Or a picture on the wall...

Verse:
We usually wait too long
To recognize what they do
I guess it's easier to put up statues
And watch it on the news...

So here's to all you heroes
The one's who answer every call...
God's speed to you son
God's safety to you all.
God's speed to you son
God's safety to you all.

Chorus Twice

So here's to all you heroes
The one's who answer every call...
God's speed to you son
God's safety to you all.

God's speed to you son
God's safety to you all.
